STRUCTURE OF THE BNCT

STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES

•  Development of Products and Services.

•  Implementation of specific programs in each organization which allow, in a medium-term, the replacement of classic librarian services by electronic services as indicated in the Norm ISO/FDIS 2789: 2001.

•  To improve the access to electronic collections given the Intranet and Websites possibilities.

•  To increase the physical production of products and services.

•  Design and implementation of BNCT quality controls.

•  Development of Human Resources: to increase the effectiveness, the results obtained from the work and to raise the development and stimulation of workers of the Vertical System, by an updated and adequate training.

•  Creation of the Group of studies of biblio-metric and info-metric indicators.

•  Consolidation of the project with the Internacional Center for Scientific and Technological Information, ICSTI.

•  Participation in the ScienTi project.

•  Collaboration Agreement with Cubaenergía.

•  Consolidation of the work with the CIGETS.

•  PERI Project.

Director: Carmen Sánchez Rojas

Graduated of Scientific and Technical Information in the University of Havana and Master of Organizational Information Management, this master's was sponsored by UNESCO professorship, the University of Murcia ( Spain ) and the UNAM ( Mexico ).

Carmen Sánchez worked at the Multisectorial Center of Scientific and Technological Information in Las Tunas province as Librarian B, later she worked in the library of the Faculty of Agrarian Economy from the Higher Pedagogical Institute of Granma province, there she was in charge of the Documentation Center until 1999. In that same year, she began working at the Institute of Scientific and Technological Information, IDICT as Director of the Bibliographic Processing and Databases Production Division. A year later, she was named the Director of the National Library of Science and Technology, BNCT which belongs to the IDICT, her present position.

Carmen Sánchez taught different training courses to professors, on Informational Systems, Reference Systems, Localization and Information Search, Librarian Services among others. She also was professor of the introduction course to the specialties, taught at the Pedagogical University , given to students of the different specialties. Besides, she taught training courses to the librarian and technical staff of Granma province on updated topics such as Bibliographic Processing, New Technologies, Information Services, Collections Development by other means such as Users Education, etc.

She has received upgrading and updating courses in all topics related to information and the new technologies, as well as various post-graduate courses in Scientific Research Methodology and Marketing.

Team leader of the research subject: Experimental essay on the effectiveness in the information retrieval of professors of the Arts Faculty and primary teachers from the Blas Roca Calderío Pedagogical University .

Automation in the Documentation Centres from the Pedagogical Universities of the country.
